Hot Off The Press : Stylo G Video

Now this is a track that I've loved from the very moment that I heard it! It has gone from getting airplay on local radio stations such as Platinum Fm, to being heavily rotated on the airwaves globally. Not surprisingly, I've seen this tune destroy a few raves already and this is just the beginning! With his new album coming out on the 18th July, Stylo G is undoubtedly one of the hottest UK Dancehall artists out there at the moment! Keep an eye on him by following him on Twitter (@StyloGee) and on a final note, check out his brand new video for the track entitled Swagga Dem!!!

Love and Affection at Mustard Bar (MJ's Birthday Bash) - 20th May 2011 - Review

You know when you go out in a good mood and as you arrive at the venue, the bouncer just upsets you? Well that certainly wasn't the outcome of my Friday night! Despite the fact that many people tend to moan about Mustard Bar bouncers in particular, I found them rather pleasant and even found myself sharing a couple of jokes with them! They were courteous, well mannered and were clearly the opposite of what I was expecting. Anyway, enough about the bouncers...

After hearing the Love and Affection promotion CD for the night, and analysing the flyer over and over again, I was heavily anticipating Friday 20th May! Now this is a very rare occasion because it's not often that I find myself presented with a line up of such expertise and quality. So upon glancing my eyes over the flyer time and time again, it became more and more apparent to me that I needed to be present in two rooms at once!

The real entertainers of the night were the DJ's and Hosts who each managed to deliver their own unique sets, whilst continuously entertaining the crowd. Shafty was one of the first DJ's to touch the decks and finishing off with one of my personal favourites Yellowtail, he set the scene for New Winner Roadshow. Now I guess the clue's in the name but I can assure you that they stepped up to the decks and took control in true NWR style. It sure wasn't a New Winner Roadshow party but they did their thing!

Although I only managed to venture downstairs to the second room for approximately 2 minutes, the DJ’s and hosts down there appeared to have everything under control. The Love and Affection vibe down there was being maintained nicely by the likes of Celebrity Supa, Pure Vibes Entertainment and a few other DJ’s on rotation. Don’t be fooled though, the music that was being selected downstairs at that precise time was Dancehall and I’ll let you figure out the rest!

One half of Love Connexion and MJ

Seeing as the event was called 'Love and Affection,' I knew that there had to be some sort of Love Connexion and I won't even try to deny the fact that I was waiting for that particular set. What can I say?! The promotion CD did sweet me yuh see! (Yes I did have to get my bit of Jamaican lingo in there.) On the night, Love Connexion laid down some of the finest Reggae and Old Skool Dancehall that I've heard in a club night and if I'm totally honest, I really did not want them to part from those decks. When they started to let off some pieces from the Showtime riddim, di place shell dung as Gappy would say. In the words of Sanchez, Love Connexion most definitely had all of the attendees 'living up' during that set and we all seemed to love it.

Stepping up after Love Connexion and bringing some House & Funky vibes in to the main room was the one and only DJ Pioneer. Hosted by Creeper from the MyIsh family, Pioneer and Creeper were *creeper voice* taking over! The special Movado dubplate which he chose to end the set with was a personal request from the birthday boy himself MJ, and set the scene perfectly for some Invasion Crew dubplate pressure...

Champagne Shower for the Birthday Boy!

After being showered with 3 bottles of Champagne, the Birthday boy MJ was definitely putting a whole new meaning to the term ‘wavey!’ Now we all know what time it is when MJ links up with Toddler to form the infamous Invasion Crew, and seeing as we were all there to celebrate MJ's birthday, this set was surely going to be an extra special one! The spontaneity of the set which they delivered, the constant support of UK Dancehall artists, and the way in which they incorporated new tracks such as Chan Dizzy - Hello Badmind made the set and the entire night an exceptional one, never to be forgotten! With authentic mixes from Toddler, exclusive tracks from Hot Coffee Music, and dubplate after dubplate, the high level of professionalism exerted by these guys makes it rather difficult to fault them.

Toddler, Chuckie, MJ

Invasion Crew!!!

I'm personally a firm believer that credit should be given where due so let us not forget that Toddler, MJ and A Star (collectively IC promotions) worked very hard behind the scenes to make Love and Affection a success. Tickets sold out, people came out in their masses to celebrate MJ’s birthday, the ladies were looking sexy and stylish, and the majority of men came out suited and booted! The way I see it, Invasion Crew are one of the leading sounds in the UK and time and time again they have shown consistency in their events, their sets, their mixes and in their attitude. For these reasons, they shall continually have my support, my ears and my presence at their events. With all of that being said, I guess you’ll be meeting me by the bar at the next Love and Affection unless you wish to miss out again!

Is BB really dead?

This track tackles this seemingly ongoing debate of whether it's a BlackBerry situation, or an iPhone situation?! To be fair, I can't really call it a debate because the track is clearly saying that BB is dead and doesn't really offer a balanced argument about the two smartphones. Now I don't personally agree with the idea that 'BB is dead' because I'm pretty content with my BB Torch, but regardless of that, check this track out and tell me what you think? Is BB really dead? If you so wish, you can even personally let him know what you think of the track via his Twitter (@yehbwoy).

No Long Talking (Official Hot Coffee Music Mix CD) by Redd Man Review

Signed to independent record label Hot Coffee Music, Redd Man has been working consistently and regularly collaborating with a variety of different artists including his CEO Gappy Ranks. With his distinctive voice and hard work ethic, he is an artist which I personally have a lot of respect for and have been keeping my eye on as of late. With new tracks coming out every month, appearances on a number of radio shows and regular studio time, the grind of this artist simply cannot be questioned.

As a result of all of this hard work, he has just released his brand new official mix CD entitled 'No Long Talking' which exhibits both his musical talent and his versatility. If I was asked to comment on the mix, the first thing that I'd probably say would be...

I say Hot Coffee Music...which is a line that I've somehow managed to implement into my day-to-day vocabulary as though I'm part of the Hot Coffee team. The catchy lyric comes from one of my personal favourite Reddman tracks entitled 'Bottle of Hennessey' which is featured on the mix. Now I can't assure that you'll love it, but I can tell you that it gets me ready for a Hot Coffee Music party! So in regards to the 4th July 2011 down at Tudor Rose for Gappy's Birthday Bash 'More Champagne More Glasses,' I can imagine the levels! Whilst I'm on the topic of catchy lyrics and riddims, I have to mention 'Talk of the Town.' The riddim is the first thing which caught me, and then when I had listened to the lyrics and the way that Reddman's vocals were blending in with the riddim, I was taken in! The lyric "Well if a gal nah wash and cook mi nah waan dem/Nuh know 'bout Mountain Peak inna Harlesden" alone deserves an automatic reload in my opinion! Then towards the end of the mix you'll find a track entitled 'Dun Out' which reminded me of a typical Vybz Kartel collaboration with one of the ladies from the Gaza camp, but in this instance it is of course Redmann alongside a female vocalist. Do excuse my poor standard of English here but it has to be said that the track is baaaaaaad!!!

Finally, the quality and precision of this mixtape is very high and sets standards for other artists in this scene. It has to be said that whilst listening to it in my household, my Mum was even requesting pull ups! Hailing from NW London, Redd Man is currently doing big things for the UK Dancehall scene so do keep yourself updated on his movements by following him on Twitter and signing up to his YouTube account where he regularly uploads new material. To download the mixtape entitled 'No Long Talking,' simply click here or on the image above. So kick back, relax, and remember that there's No Long Talking in 2011!

Chan Dizzy - Hello Badmind (Official Video)

So Chan Dizzy first taught us that 'We nuh waan no strange face round we,' and that we should stick to rolling with our true friends and family, rather than these fake friends that are becoming far too common these days!

With this track, he's now telling us to acknowledge our haters and show them our successes. Remind them that no matter what they do to try and stop us, we are still here surviving and living our lives. I really like the message that Chan Dizzy's music holds because it makes a change to all of the usual 'Cock it up my gal' or 'Bullet inna head' stuff that teaches us absolutely nothing and simply has an entertaining purpose. So if you don't know already, get to know about this guy! Here is his new video for 'Hello Badmind!'

Why Di Place Shell Down?

This may not be the latest track to come out from Gappy Ranks, but there is no doubt in my mind that it is a riddim! I've been rotating this one quite heavily since I primarily heard it on Mista Hooli's show and I'm yet to hear it getting the airplay that it deserves!

Admittedly listening to radio quite regularly and doing my very best to keep up with the latest tracks that are doing big things on the music circuit, I'm really starting to wonder why this track is not being played as regularly as it should. I'm not sure if it's because DJ's and selectors are unaware of it, but I do know that they do need to start becoming aware of it and playing it. Without a doubt, this is going to be a Summer Anthem for me, and I hope that all of the other Reggae and Dancehall lovers out there will start getting into this one too. Better late than never!

Everybody asks why di place shell down...Gappy tells us just why di place shell down within this track!Have a listen...

Prestige Affair Event Review - Thursday 28th April 2011

Having only been out raving on the Thursday and Friday of the previous Bank Holiday weekend, I was determined to make up for lost time during the one which begun on the 28th April. With no work on the Friday and a number of raves being held on the Thursday night, there really was no reason for me to stay in. Especially not after seeing the line-up for Prestige scheduled to take place at Club Hidden, Vauxhall on Thursday 28th April!

As I peered down on the flyer, the names read as Pioneer, Jag One sound, Invasion Crew, Celebrity Supa, Weighty J and Coldsteps and I’d be here for a while if I continued to list them...The line up really did speak for itself!

Security on the night was nothing other than tight but polite. All security checks and procedures were put into place to ensure that the night ran smoothly and everyone was safe. As a consequence of this, I felt like I was in good hands from the moment that I stepped inside of the venue, up until the moment that I stepped out of it. With the safety aspect of things being covered, there wasn't much else to do other than to enjoy oneself.

The crowd were warmed up by Pac Man and DJ 2Four7 who played a nice selection of Old Skool RnB tracks, followed by some Old Skool Bashment. The Bashment segment was most definitely my time, and I can safely say that I was all geared up and ready for the night ahead after that set. Not only was I warmed up, but the majority of the attendees seemed to be on my wavelength and were also beginning to loosen up at this point. Coats were coming off, people were getting rounds of drinks in, and the headlining DJ's begun to touch the decks. Following this, Celebrity Supa and Pure Vibes graced the decks with their presence and delivered a very nice selection of House and Funky which went deeper into House than just one Black Coffee track. I can safely say that those sets got the seal of approval from yours truly, a real House and Funky Junkie!

With that phrase 'loosen up,' being brought into the situation, I think it's about time that I introduce you to the RnB and Bashment room! Upon the opening of Room 2, a vast majority of crowd transgressed from the main room and into this one. Equally equipped as the main room, room 2 entailed an elevated DJ booth, a fully stocked bar and enough ravers to fill the entire dance floor. When I decided to move into this room, Jag 1 Sound were starting their set and not surprisingly I wasn’t leaving the room until their set was over. Following Jag 1 Sound, Rocky Boss took to the decks and then finishing off in Room 2 was Invasion Crew. Playing the best in Ragga, Bashment and Dancehall, these 3 sets had Room 2 on lock! Switching up the vibes a little bit, Invasion Crew began their set with a bit of Jungle leaving Chalice Man on my right hand side skanking out heavily reliving some memories of the good times. Following this, they dropped a bit of Soca to add some versatility to the set, but they were always going to finish it with their speciality. Of course, they incorporated their infamous Bounty Killer dubs and finished both their set and the entire night in true style with an Invasion Crew dubplate. What other track could sum up the night any better than Stylo G’s latest anthem, Swagga Dem?! Yeh yeh yeh Swagga Dem!

If there was one thing that upset me about the night, it was the line up! Far from being a poor line up, it was the complete opposite whereby the quality of the DJ’s was upheld to such a high level that I had to begin to choose which room I wanted to be in for whose set! Some of the decisions were as follows... Tag Team champions Jag One Sound or Pure Vibes giving you more vibes? Pioneer and Spidey G coupled with Coldsteps (often summed up as shellings,) or Rocky Boss the BritJam boss? The dynamic duo Weighty J and Coldsteps, or Invasion 'Kill a Soundbwoy' Crew? Tell me that isn’t STRESS?!

On a final note, if you came down to Prestige to party in a well facilitated venue, to party with real ravers who just want to go out and have a good time, and to hear some good quality mixes from the finest selectors in the circuit right now, you most certainly got what you were looking for! It was a prestigious affair and I’m a firm believer that credit should be given where due so here is a well deserved ‘Thank You’ going out to all of the DJ’s who delivered on the night, and of course the promoters who made this night happen who are Buttersbwoy PR, Jag 1 Entertainment, F.R Promotions & Double XL! Not forgetting all of the ravers of prestige that came down to Hidden, stayed in good spirits throughout the night and into the early hours of the morning, simply enjoying their night!

P.S. I heard there was a Payback Party on Saturday 28th May at Firefly...
